Why do Atheists always ask why bad events happen?

They do not see all of the events that happen, no matter how good or bad, are part of His plan. They ask, "why do events like September 11th happen?" and I tell them that God is telling us things when these events happen. I said for September 11th, if that did not happen, how else would we open our eyes to terrorism around the globe? On September 11th, God was telling us we need to better protect our citizens or more people might die in a future attack. And He was also telling us how hatred is destroying us. WWII happened because of a man full of hatred and God was showing us how bad hatred is and where it leads us. During Hurricane Katrina, God was telling us we need to listen to warnings given to us. You see? All these events are the the ways in which God is giving us warnings and trying to teach us lessons. We hardly ever learn from these lessons, so these events keep happening. The lives lost are nothing compared to the lives we can lose if we don't listen to God's warnings

Why do Atheists always ask why bad events happen?
If God's way of 'teaching us a lesson' is to slaughter millions and millions of innocent people, people he claims to love, then he isn't the sort of God I want to be worshiping in the first place. Regardless of whether he exists or not.
Reply:... By your logic, god could only be warning us of parts of his plan. Any terrorism after 9/11 would also be a part, any evil after WWII, any natural disaster after Katrina; all would be part of your god's plan? Why is he warning us for more warnings?
Reply:God told who?
Reply:Riiiight. I think the straitjacket needs tightening.
Reply:What is God telling us when he allows Christians in Dafur to be killed by the thousands? And what is he telling us when he allows 6 million babies to die every year of starvation? What is he telling us when he allows American soldiers to kill innocent civilians
Reply:That's exactly the reason that question is asked.. because of that answer.

Why did 9/11 happen? Because it's what god wanted to have thousands of people crushed and burned to death.

Why did the tsunami happen? Because god wanted tens of thousands of people to drown.

Why do people get cancer? Because god wants to watch millions die in pain.

Your god is a sick, twisted bastard.
Reply:you xn's sure are creepy...but i will say that you're good at one thing: rationalizing. you could talk your way out of a paper bag if you had to. unfounded though your claim of a god is, you still are good at rationalizing...but remember this: rationalizing is a defense mechanism.
Reply:Again...

If god is all powerful he doesn't have to allow for evil

If he is all loving, he wouldn't allow evil

It's easy for us to say "9/11 happened for a reason" but if YOU were the one dying by fire, you might think that God could possibly find a way to accomplish his glorious plan that didn't involve you dying in such pain.
Reply:First of all, I have never, ever, heard an atheist ask why bad events happen.

We generally know why they happen and we don't need god to explain it.

WWII happened as an extension of WWI because of the terms of the treaty of Versailles which were quite antagonistic and damaging to the German society. The depression in Germany began in 1919 and there was no way Germany could recover economically. This instability and economic hardship paved the way for a totalitarian version of the "new deal" which is what allowed a person like Hitler to come to power. You realize he was democratically elected right? The allies learned from their mistakes and spent a great deal of money on reconstruction in Germany and Japan after WWII.

As for 9/11 being God's way of opening our eyes to terrorism around the world, well, I have my own 9/11 hypothesis that doesn't belong in the R%26amp;S thread, but I'm also one of many people who had heard of al Qaeda and the Taleban before 9/11, I also knew Iraq didn't have anything to do with it and that Iraq had no WMDs.. so... if God did have something to do with 9/11, maybe it was really a lesson that the US shouldn't screw around with other countries? Maybe the continuing trouble in Iraq (despite "Mission Accomplished") is God reaffirming his original message of 9/11 because the American Religious Right didn't understand it the first time?

Isn't it funny how anyone can twist the word and will of god to serve their own political agenda? Convenient, isn't it? Just one of many things that make you go "hmmm."
Reply:That's really a load of crap. If I put my hand on a hot burner, is the sizzling God telling me that I shouldn't put my hand on hot stuff? No. It's my nervous system telling me I shouldn't put my hand on hot stuff. God's helping us watch out for terrorists? Ok, then why are there terrorists? If there really is a caring God who is involved in our lives, couldn't he do something to comfort the would-be terrorists to keep them from going down that path in the first place? When parents want to teach there children that, say, guns are dangerous, they don't put one in the middle of the playroom and wait for someone to get shot. Society would be horrified if someone did that.

What sadistic bastard would have a plan that involved people jumping out of skyscrapers to avoid an inferno? Or one that has people walking into crowded areas to blow them and anyone in a certain radius away? However, I suppose I've made an assumption. If you believe that God is neither benevolent nor caring, then you're right, it does make sense. Sorry for suggesting otherwise.
Reply:Sounds a lot like the Israelites who had to wander the desert for forty years--they never learned either. They did their own thing, worshipped idols and grumbled against God in spite of the mighty miracles they saw. The more things change, the more they stay the same. There is nothing new under the sun.
Reply:Did I just see "free thinker" hmmm lolz whatever dude
Reply:why do christians predict "bad things will happen"
Reply:hmmmm ...... I often thought it was global warming that caused the erratic weather condition ....... as humans started to destroy the environment. I alway thought USA did not want to sign the prevention of pollution treaty because they are the world's largest producer of global warming gas.

Sep 11 was created by terrorist of another one god religion which is at odd with the Christians. WWII was created because some lunatics was trying to control the world.

so it is god that does it ..... now that explains everything ..... Why are you using a computer now? god is telling you to stop using electricity, you are destroying the earth.....
Reply:I think people ask because they are trying to be ironic...as in basically saying, if that 'god' was real, then this stuff would not happen to good people...
Reply:That's an interesting hypothesis. Now, how would you differentiate that hypothesis from the null hypothesis, namely that there is no God and these events happen without the aid of anything supernatural? The null hypothesis explains all of the events just as well, and does so more simply.
Reply:Gods don't exist, so they can't be responsible for these things. It's the religious delusional people that think to act in name of god that can make very strange decisions once in a while.
Reply:I know this may sound strange, but bad things happen because God loves us so much. Let me explain my reasoning for this... God loved us so much that instead of making us just have to love him he gave us a free will. We have a free will to choose between right and wrong, and when we choose, it does not only affect us. It affects everyone around us. In regargds to 9/11, those people chose to fly into a building and kill thousands of other people, the tsunami happened maybe becuase of global warming due to our abuse of cars and such. I hope I explained this the right way... I think that most of all if I could help people, I would ask them to stop blaming God for what people do. He gave us the free will to choose what to do and some people choose the wrong path.
