What are some events in American history that can be described as 'trailblazing' or 'innovative'?

I'm looking for three fairly major events that would fit into the theme of "America brought many new ideas, etc. into the world that hadn't been widely used before..."

Basically, I'm looking for events/ideas/goals/etc that America created, or was the first to use/achieve.

Preferably pretty major events, between the Revolutionary era and the Populist Era.

Thanks in advance!

One thing that America brought was a constitutional republic. Although ideas were drawn from classical examples (ie Greece), many of the ideas were new to the world. Some nations have since patterns their constitutions after ours.
