Events and Actions influenced by religion?

Do you know any events or actions in society that were influenced by religion? Do you think religion impacts society?

Why? The actions/events may be positive or negative.

Events and Actions influenced by religion?
answer: Yes and even these days religion impacts society. Look at the laws in the Middle East - people are stoned and beheaded because they broke a religious law.

Salem witchhunts and deaths were based on religion.

The Inquisition - whether based in political or financial ulterior motives - the reason for hundreds of years of terror was religious.

Religious wars - Protestants vs Catholics, Protestant denominations vs other denominations, Irish/Anglo conflicts

Arguments against gay marriage - based on religion.

Arguments against abortion - based on religion

arguments for slavery - based on religion

arguments against slavery - religious (somewhat) based

and on and on
Reply:Sunday worship in church puts the focus on God, and even closes down the govt, banks, etc. A day of rest is good.

The church in general has had very positive effects but it is always under attack and being hijacked by evil people for evil purposes such as the health and wealth churches. That is why God is very stern in warning against using his name in vain. Hes not talking about saying G-D, hes saying not to misprepresent him misuing his name for evil purposes.
Reply:The eventual Fall of the Roman Empire, the Crusades, the

Reformation, the Salem Witch trials, the Constitution- How

does religion NOT affect society? Religion may be viewed

as the chain that binds a society or the hope that goodness

exists in all of us.
Reply:the murderers of Juluis Ceasar all were said to suffer an early death because Ceasar was an orphan. And the bible stated those who kill an orphan will find there children will become orphans.
