How do you manage time/events during track meets?

I'm always in the maximum amount of events you can be in meets; 3 in the winter, 4 in the spring. In my last meet I ran the open 400 which was the first event of the meet. Then, 10 minutes after I had to compete in the Pole Vault. I was wiped and felt I could of done better if I wasn't so tired. My next event was the 4x400, which was the last event of the meet. I wasn't as tired but I still though it affected my performance (I ran .5 seconds slower). Are there any tricks to juggling your events while being able to perform your best in all of them?

While I'll agree with the others who have answered your questions, as a coach, I know that it is not always up to you as to how many events your coach enters you. I'm a coach and I enter athletes in events to win meets...I sometimes consider their input, but I always have the TEAM'S best interest in mind. I also competed (3200 relay, 800, 1600 %26amp; 3200) at and coach at a small school, and I know that sometimes coaches need their athletes in the maximum number of events. Therefore, I recommend that first you have a conversation with your coach about the number of events in which you compete. If he/she needs you in all three events, remember to do your best for the TEAM.
Reply:You should try choosing some events that aren't right after another. Running the 400 at the beginning and 4x400 at the end is a good idea, make sure that you work on continuous warm-ups they should help.
Reply:You are always going to be tired after the 400.

You should not enter so many events that you can not recover in time for each event.

some people can do lots of events, especially if they are short events or field events, but when you do a stress event like the 400 or 800 you are not going to be at your best for the rest of the day.

Some times it is best not to do all of your events each week, you can alternate meets so that you do some one week and the others the next week.
