Interesting events or time periods of the 20th century in the USA??

I have to find a NONFICTION book to read for my US History class and I don't want to read just a boring biography or something. Do you know of any interesting time periods, or more helpfully, an actual title of a book that is NONFICTION and not boring that tells of such an event.

Someone has already asked a similar question and a lot of those ideas sounded good, but do u know of any actual books that tell of these events? and remember: it must be NONFICTION!

Thanks.

How about The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test or something about the wild and crazy 60's? Or a book about one of the 2 World Wars? Or the Depression? An awful lot happened in America in the 20th Century. Pax-C
Reply:Consider this one fact - At the beginning of the century almost no one owned an automobile. Long before the century ended people were routinely flying around the globe and we had landed men on the moon. That's a rather impressive advance.
Reply:Let's see, there was the Roaring Twenties, Depression, World War II, birth of rock'n'roll, McCarthyism, Beatlemania %26amp; anti-Vietnam/hippies (a book about Woodstock or the Haight could be really interesting), Watergate...

I'm personally fond of reading about what happened socially, such as music and what not. I haven't read much about what took place in America, though, really only bios of British musicians. One about Elvis could be really interesting.
Reply:Try the book Brother, Can You Spare a Dime? by Milton Meltzer--a very cool oral-history type account of the Great Depression.
