The Gulf of Tonkin "incidents", which directly led to the escalation of US involvement in Vietnam, later found false. Interestingly, it was considered a conspiracy theory for many years. 50,000 US soldiers dead, and countless wounded. Perhaps 1.5 million N Vietnamese, many in the South.





That's only one, but sure is engraved in my mind. Some relevance to Iraq and how we got there.
