Interesting events or time periods of the 20th century in the USA??

I have to find a NONFICTION book to read for my US History class and I don't want to read just a boring biography or something. Do you know of any interesting time periods, or more helpfully, an actual title of a book that is NONFICTION and not boring that tells of such an event.

Someone has already asked a similar question and a lot of those ideas sounded good, but do u know of any actual books that tell of these events? and remember: it must be NONFICTION!

Thanks.

Interesting events or time periods of the 20th century in the USA??
How about The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test or something about the wild and crazy 60's? Or a book about one of the 2 World Wars? Or the Depression? An awful lot happened in America in the 20th Century. Pax-C
Reply:Consider this one fact - At the beginning of the century almost no one owned an automobile. Long before the century ended people were routinely flying around the globe and we had landed men on the moon. That's a rather impressive advance.
Reply:Let's see, there was the Roaring Twenties, Depression, World War II, birth of rock'n'roll, McCarthyism, Beatlemania %26amp; anti-Vietnam/hippies (a book about Woodstock or the Haight could be really interesting), Watergate...

I'm personally fond of reading about what happened socially, such as music and what not. I haven't read much about what took place in America, though, really only bios of British musicians. One about Elvis could be really interesting.
Reply:Try the book Brother, Can You Spare a Dime? by Milton Meltzer--a very cool oral-history type account of the Great Depression.

Track and Fields events?

Ok, tomorrow I need to choose which events I have to do. I'm allowed to do 2 track and 1 field or 2 field and 1 track. All I know is I'm doing one of the sprinting events. So, can you guys give me an overall opinion on what events? however, I can't do hurdles or high jump... Thanks

Track and Fields events?
well it would probs be good if we knew what you were good a, if you're a distance runner or a sprinter or both

can you only do one sprint

to get a good variety i would do a 100 cos it's easy a long jump and a 1500 because it's better to run the 1500 because the 800 is still a very fast race; assuming that you dont do aths much it would be harder to keep up in an 800

In 1804 NAPOLEON BONAPARTE crowned himself Emperor of France. The THIRD WAR OF THE COALITION was fought in 1805; the naval battle of TRAFALGAR ended in a decisive British victory over a combined Franco-Spanish fleet; the BATTLE OF AUSTERLITZ saw a decisive French victory over a combined Austro-Russian force.

France now undisputedly held the HEGEMONY in continental Europe. In 1805 Napoleon continued with the restructuring of Europe; he transformed the Italian Republic into the KINGDOM OF ITALY (with himself as king), to which VENICE was annexed; LIGURIA was annexed to France, as was PARMA. In 1806 the map of Germany underwent another major restructuring; the CONFEDERATION OF THE RHINE Rheinbund) was founded with Napoleon at the helm. The Batavian Republic was transformed into the KINGDOM OF HOLLAND (Napoleon's brother Louis as king), brother Joseph was made King of NAPLES (i.e. the mainland part of the Kingdom of the two Sicilies, just occupied by French troops).

In 1806, Napoleon Bonaparte established the CONTINENTAL BLOCKADE, intended to significantly harm British exports.

In 1806, Napoleon's troops fought the PRUSSIAN CAMPAIGN (War of the Fourth Coalition); Prussian and Russian troops were defeated in the BATTLE OF JENA AND AUERSTAEDT (Oct. 1806), EYLAU (Feb.1807), FRIEDLAND (June 1807); in the PEACE OF TILSIT Prussia ceded all lands west of the Elbe, which were to form part of the newly created KINGDOM OF WESTPHALIA, brother Jerome being king. Russia turned into a French ally.Prussia also had to cede her gains from the second and third Polish Partition; they were urned into the GRAND DUCHY OF WARSAW - the nucleus of a Polish state.

What are some events in American history that can be described as 'trailblazing' or 'innovative'?

I'm looking for three fairly major events that would fit into the theme of "America brought many new ideas, etc. into the world that hadn't been widely used before..."

Basically, I'm looking for events/ideas/goals/etc that America created, or was the first to use/achieve.

Preferably pretty major events, between the Revolutionary era and the Populist Era.

Thanks in advance!

What are some events in American history that can be described as 'trailblazing' or 'innovative'?
One thing that America brought was a constitutional republic. Although ideas were drawn from classical examples (ie Greece), many of the ideas were new to the world. Some nations have since patterns their constitutions after ours.

The white house web site has some very good summaries. The presidential libraries are also good and authoritative sources of names, dates, and events to examine.
